University of Dundee
The Construction Management Research Unit at the University of Dundee is part of the Grade 5A rated Division of Civil Engineering. It has successfully executed research projects to a value in excess of £2m, attracting funding from research councils and from industry in roughly equal measure. The Division runs the only EPSRC funded MRes in Civil Engineering in the UK. Recent, relevant research contracts include an “Application of ILS to the development of cost-effective maintenance strategies for existing building stock”, the success of which led directly to the current EPSRC research project “A generic approach to minimising whole life costs in the construction industry”. Other areas of expertise include labour productivity, project modelling, and lean construction. The Division of Civil Engineering has expertise in sustainable concrete construction, development of structural bio-materials, use of re-cycled materials, bio-remediation and pollutant control and dispersion. It is also home to the Centre for Enterprise Management, which has particular expertise in strategic management and the management of change. This creates a unique team of social scientists, accountants, industrial engineers, civil engineers and building surveyors researching issues of sustainability in the construction industry.
